Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has dismissed reports that he will lead the federal government negotiation team that would meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the ongoing strike.
Report had surfaced earlier that the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, confirmed on Wednesday, August 30, after the Federal Executive Council meeting, that Osinbajo will lead the negotiations with striking university lecturers.
Reacting to the report, the special assistant on media and publicity to the vice president, Laolu Akande, said it was false.

In a tweet on Thursday, August 31, he described the report as untrue and inaccurate.
Akande noted that the labour and education ministers will continue to lead the talks with the striking lecturers.
In an earlier report by NAIJ.com, ASUU shunned a meeting with the federal government.
Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU president, said the union will not attend any meeting unless it receives a reply to their proposal from the government.

However, the Senate has appealed to the ASUU to call off its ongoing strike in the interest of the students and Nigerians in general.
Jibrin Barau, chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, said the Senate sympathised with the union.
