JUST IN: Though holidaying in Katsina, Buhari takes action as flood ravages Benue communities

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked emergency workers in the country to immediately proceed to flood-ravaged areas of Benue state with personnel and resources.

Buhari, who is currently in Katsina state for the Sallah celebration, said he was concerned about the situation in the north-central state as over 100,000 people were rendered homeless.

A statement obtained from the presidency by NAIJ.com stated that the president said he received the reports of the flood which affected 12 local governments with great concern.

“Consequently, the president has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to come to the aid of the victims of the flooding.

“The president is closely monitoring the situation, and will be receiving regular updates on the scale of the disaster, as well as the Federal Government's humanitarian response.

“The president extends his sympathies to the government and people of Benue state, and assures that the Federal Government will make available any assistance needed to enable the affected communities cope with and surmount the impact of the flooding,” the statement by Shehu Garba, Buhari’s media aide, said.
