- Charly Boy recounted his ordeal in the hands of the Nigeria Police Force

- He promised to continue his protest despite antagonism from the police
Controversial entertainer, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, has recounted how he was tear-gassed and attacked by officers of the Nigeria Police Force during his #ResumeorResign protest in Abuja.
Charly Boy said he and the other protesters at unity fountain were not up to 10 in number but the Nigerian Police Force sent 200 officers to stop the police.
He said they were first of all attacked with Water Cannon before they were tear-gassed and then the police took the brutality a step further by setting dogs on them.
Recall that NAIJ.com reported that Charly Boy along with some other people were at Unity Fountain, Abuja to protest the continuous stay of President Buhari in London.

In an interview with Punch, Oputa said: “We were not even up to 10 people that set out for the Unity Fountain. When we got there, we met close to 200 policemen. Initially they tried to stop us from going further.
"But we explained to them that ours would be a peaceful demonstration. I gave them the assurance that we were not going to anywhere else and the protest would not be hijacked by hoodlums."
“Before we knew it, they started with the water cannon. Then they tear-gassed us and set their dogs against us. Worried, I went to one of the policemen who was standing near me and asked him why they resorted to such action. Instead of responding to me, he suddenly raised his gun and hit me in the eye.”
He said he saw the police beating up journalists who were at the scene to cover the protest.
He said: “I saw them beating up that man and smashing his camera. I hope they have not killed him."
The singer and song writer popularly known as Area father promised to continue his protest until President Muhammadu Buhari either resign or return from London.
“We are coming out tomorrow. It is better they kill me now because I will never stop speaking for the masses of this country," he said.

Meanwhile, former minister of education under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration, Oby Ezekwesili, has attacked the presidency over alleged police brutality on Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa aka Charly Boy during his protest in Abuja.
Ezekwesili, while reacting to the unfortunate event said the presidency should focus more on disseminating adequate information about the president's health and not on stopping citizens from protesting.
In a series of tweets, the Bring Back Our Girls convener, said she is sure that no amount of police brutality would stop Charly Boy from returning the next day to continue the protest.
