The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, has declared the need for a new minimum wage.
Wabba, said $140 was the equivalent of N18, 000 minimum wage during the former President Goodluck Jonathan led government.
He made this known at the 60th anniversary of the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) that took place on Wednesday, July 13.

The president of the Nigeria labour congress also said that the move was crucial because N50, 400 is the current value of $140 and which is by the current exchange rate of 360 to one dollar, Guardian reports.
He said: “We think that it is only reasonable to demand a wage that can sustain the working class.
‘’We are aware that the value of our national currency has gone down. This is why it is appropriate to base our negotiation on that.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress, on Sunday, May 30, begged the federal government to examine the negotiation committee on the national minimum wage.
Ayuba Wabba, NLC president, made this known in a statement he issued on Sunday, May 28, in Abuja, a day before the Democracy Day celebration that was held on Monday, May 29.
