A group of Christian leaders have demanded that the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari be made public.

The group known as the Southern Nigeria Christian Elders’ Forum (SONCEF) made the demand in a communiqué released after its meeting on Thursday, July 6.
The SONCEF said making public the true health condition of Buhari would help reduce the political tension in the country, Tribune reports.
According to the group, its demand that the president’s health be made public stems from the fact that Buhari was occupying a public office.
The group said that even though Nigerians had the duty to pray for the president, they equally deserved to know his true health status.
This communiqué issued by the group read in part: "We pray for quick recovery of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari
“We, however, call on the Federal Government to fully disclose the health status of His Excellency Muhammdu Buhari, considering that he is occupying an exulted public office.”
"We are disturbed by the unstable state of the nation as a result of different agitations, threats and quit notices.
“We urge Christian Elders to wake up and fearlessly perform their prophetic role by speaking and acting proactively and appropriately.
“We urge the governors and members of the National Assembly to speak and act boldly to defend and protect the citizens.

“We note that the redemption of Nigeria now does not only require mere meetings and simple prayers, it requires concerted actions.
“We strongly condemn the removal or merging of Christian Religious Knowledge with National Value and Ethics in the Curriculum of Schools and we warn that any such surreptitious act could adversely affect the unity and stability of Nigeria. We call for the restructuring of Nigeria to reflect the ideal and principles of true federalism and sound democracy.”
Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has again called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign in the interest of the country.
Fayose in a series of tweets on Wednesday, July 5, asked how a nation could move ahead when its president spends most time abroad for medical care.
The governor recalled that he had raised the issue of Buhari’s age, health and mental capacity in 2015 and warned against voting for him. He said Buhari should step aside just as he called for the removal of Yar’Adua in 2010.
