Association president among 5 Nigerians arrested in India for drug trafficking

- Two of the suspects were arrested with three grams of cocaine and 200 grams of ganja in their possession on Sunday

- The visas of three of the suspects expired years ago, while one of them is reportedly the president of Nigerians in Hyderabad

- A total of 20 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of brown sugar, 39.8 grams amphetamine tablets and pieces, 1.675 kg of ganja and Rs 2 lakh cash were seized from the suspects

For allegedly trafficking drugs including cocaine, brown sugar and amphetamine, five Nigerians have been arrested in India, The Cable reports.

The suspects were arrested by the Rachakonda police in Hyderabad; and they have been identified as Cosmas Ojukwu, 30; John Okorie, 26; Okereke Cyril Anezi, 31; John Paul Onyebuchi, 34 and Ogunka Henry Okechukwu, 31.

An Indian accomplice Palaparthi Sangeetha, 35, was also arrested.

The first two suspects to be arrested were John Paul Onyebuchi and Palaparthi Sangeetha who were arrested on Sunday July 23 at a bus-stop with three grams of cocaine and 200 grams of ganja in their possession.

A report by the Times of India stated: “Based on Sangeetha and Onyebuchi’s confessions, police raided Ojukwu’s flat and arrested him having 10 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of brown sugar, 37 blue amphetamine tablets and 40 pink amphetamine tablets, a laptop, 1.54 lakh cash, three cell phones and an Activa vehicle in his possession.”

According to the Rachakonda commissioner of police Mahesh Bhagawat, Cosmas has been purchasing drugs from his friend Gabriel, “who operates from Goa and Hyderabad. He supplied drugs through Sangeetha, John Paul and Henry”.

It was with Cosmos’ confession that the house of Okorie, Onyebuchi and Okechukwu was raided by the police, where they seized seven grams of cocaine, 300 grams of ganja, Rs 50,000 cash, laptop and cell phones.

Okorie and Anezi are both students of Nizam College.

Anezi is also reportedly the president of Nigerians in Hyderabad.

The commissioner of police further disclosed that the visas of Ojukwu, Onyebuchi and Okechukwu had expired years ago.

In total, 20 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of brown sugar, 39.8 grams amphetamine tablets and pieces, 1.675 kg of ganja and Rs 2 lakh cash were seized from the suspects.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a team from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested another Nigerian identified as Eneh Wilfried Amobi, at a suburban railway station in Mumbai, India, for allegedly possessing contraband worth $1.4m.

Wilfried was caught with a large quantity of contraband after a tip-off by a ticket checker.
