Troops kill top Boko Haram leader, rescues 9 hostages (photos)

- Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and the JTF members carry out successful operation against Boko Haram insurgents

- The operation began at about a kilometre to Jarawa village, Kala Balge LGA, Borno state, when the troops entered heavy Boko Haram terrorists’ ambush, which they successfully cleared

- The soldiers reportedly pursued the fleeing insurgents into the nearby forest where they killed a large number of Boko Haram terrorists

Soldiers attached to Operation Lafiya Dole in conjunction with some Civilian JTF have carried out a successful operation against some Boko Haram terrorists at Jarawa village, Kala Balge local government area, Borno state.

The operation by the troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army of Operation Lafiya Dole and the JTF members was reportedly carried out on Sunday, June 11.

According to the director army public relations, Brigadier General SK Usman, the operation began at about a Kilometre to Jarawa village, when the troops entered heavy Boko Haram terrorists’ ambush, which they successfully cleared.

Nine abducted children undergoing training at the terrorists’ training camp were rescued

After clearing the ambush, the soldiers reportedly pursued the fleeing insurgents into the nearby forest where they killed a large number of Boko Haram terrorists including the notorious Abu Nazir, the terrorists’ Amir in Jarawa during the operation.

The army spokesperson stated that the troops captured several weapons including an AK-47 rifle, 1 Double barrel gun, 1 primed heavy Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and 3 Motorcycles.

They also rescued 9 abducted children undergoing training at the terrorists’ training camp in the village.

SK Usman stated that the minors have been evacuated and are being given preliminary humanitarian assistance in preparation to handing them over to Kala Balge Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management Committee.

Meanwhile, two local vigilante personnel were left dead on Saturday night June 10 after gunmen believed to be Boko Haram members attacked Yale village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, officials said.

Another operative of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, lies in critical condition at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital following the attack, Premium Times learnt.

NAIJ.com gathered that the attackers were said to have targeted a security post where both vigilante and soldiers hold sentry in Yale village.

The spokesperson of the VGN in Borno State, Abbas Gava, told Premium Times on phone that the gunmen invaded Yale village late Saturday night shooting sporadically and causing scared residents to flee into the bushes.
