- Finance minister Adeosun says she never tweeted anything of the sort
- She says the tweet was photoshopped onto her Twitter handle by some people looking to cause trouble for her
- She notes that every part of the country is important to Nigeria's financial system
Nigeria's finance minister Kemi Adeosun has denied an insulting tweet aimed at the Igbos that purportedly emerged from her Twitter handle at the weekend.
The tweet claimed that she was delighted that the south easterners were becoming more irrelevant in Nigeria's economic setting.
The tweet read: "I am happy that Igbos are gradually becoming insignificant in Nigeria financial system and before the end of 2023 Igbos will be insignificant in South east and Nigeria in general."

But in a brief statement released on Sunday, June 25, the finance minister slammed the tweet and declared it as false.
She noted that the tweet was photoshopped in an attempt to drag her name into the mud.
The statement read: "It has come to my attention that there's a fake Twitter post circulating in my name, suggesting that I said something derogatory about Igbos. Kindly disregard it.
"It's nothing but a shoddy attempt to photoshop a hateful statement onto my Twitter handle. I did not say or tweet any such thing.

"Every part of Nigeria is important to our financial system and our Economy, and as a Government we will support ALL to achieve their full potential."
A look at the tweet by NAIJ.com also showed that the minister is probably right as the post was poorly constructed grammatically - from wrong cases to lack of punctuation and all - as if written by a child.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Adeosun has been in trouble with a Twitter account.
In 2016, NAIJ.com reported that Adeosun, on Thursday, September 1, denied ownership of the Twitter handle that posted controversial updates about Nigeria’s economic recession.
The National Bureau of Statistics had announced on Wednesday, August 31, that Nigeria’s economy contracted by 2.06% in the second quarter.
The figures released showed that Nigeria had officially gone into recession.
