2 dead as multiple bombings rock University of Maiduguri after peaceful Eid el Fitr celebration

- After celebrating a hitch-free Sallah, the University of Maiduguri encountered multiple suicide bombing on Sunday night

Suicide bombers attacked the University of Maiduguri on Sunday night, June 25, detonating explosives at different locations in the school, including the security office.

Two lives were reportedly lost, Premium Times reports.

The first blast was said to have occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Another explosive was detonated at exactly 11 p.m.

The second blast was followed by hours of shootings and sounds of military vehicular movements.

The incident was confirmed by the Borno police public relations officer, Victor Isukwu, at about 12 midnight on a WhatsApp platform, He only gave sketchy details of casualties recorded, while cautioning reporters not to speculate.

At Unimaid only one male suicide bomber died; three university security personnel injured among which one later died,” Isukwu noted.

In a BBC Hausa broadcast early on Monday, Danjuma Gambo, a professor in the Mass Communications department of the university who also doubles as the spokesperson of the institution, confirmed the incident.

According to him, three suicide attacks took place in the university last night.

After celebrating a peaceful Sallah during the day, residents could go to sleep at night as sounds of bombings and shootings rented most part of the night and early hours of the dawn.

The university which is about 45km from Kawuri town where the official entrance gate to Sambisa forest is located, has suffered several attacks from the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
