US soldier murdered in Nigeria to be buried April 17 as family offers N2m for information about his killers

- The family Chuks Okebata, a US veteran soldier who was murdered has offered N2million to anybody with information that would lead to the arrest of the killers

- Chuks Okebata retired in 2014 through disabled honorary discharge having sustained an injury while working for the USA Navy

The family of 34-year-old Chuks Okebata, a US veteran soldier who was murdered in Nigeria on January 12, at Atta junction in the Ikeduru local government area of Imo state has offered N2million to anybody with information that would lead to the arrest of the killers

The deceased met his untimely death when he came home for the Christmas and new year celebrations.

NAIJ.com reports that after his arrival, he was kidnapped at his village, Umduruorie, Orimezie community in the Mbaitoli LGA of the state and was whisked to Atta junction of the state where he was gunned down.

The father also claimed that his son was assassinated since his gold watch, vehicle, USA licensed pistol and other properties in his possession when they attacked him were not stolen

While addressing journalists on Thursday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists press complex in Owerri, the elder brother to the slain veteran soldier, said the family has set aside a sum of N2m reward for anybody who would offer correct information that would lead to arrest of the killers.

He said: “Our family has offered N2m reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those who committed this heinous crime.

“As we appreciate the effort of Nigeria Police Force in solving this crime, yet their investigation shows no accounts of the vehicle set by these criminals or accounts for the murder weapons.

“We plan to set a security foundation in Memorial of our brother and son so that others do not fall prey to such evil act.”

Timothy Mbaeri, father of the murdered soldier however said the murder of his son gives negative image about Nigeria. According to him, many Nigerians abroad will be scared to come back home.

He further announced that his son would be buried on April 17.

The father also provided additional information about his murdered son.

According to him, his son retired in 2014 through disabled honorary discharge having sustained an injury while working for the USA Navy.

The father also claimed that his son was assassinated since his gold watch, vehicle, USA licensed pistol and other properties in his possession when they attacked him were not stolen.

Going further, he hinted that the family was equally working with the USA Federal Bureau of Investigation with the aim of apprehending the killers of the American citizen.
