OPINION: Please save my soul, my father, cousin want to kill me, woman cries out

Editor’s note: Molestation and brutalization of either man or woman by any person or groups of people is indeed against Nigerian law and most traditions also frown at it. It is ttherefore expected that nobody should take law into his or her hands.

In a message sent to NAIJ.comNAIJ.com, a Facebook user, Adigun Moyosore narrates how she was brutalized by her father, cousin over an altercation between her and her cousin.

My name is Adigun Moyosore. I have a story to share with the world. As a result of my parents’ separation, I had to relocate to Abuja to live with my dad due to the sole reason that my mum couldn’t carry the load of training me and my sister despite her incessant efforts.

My parents have been separated for 14 years now and I lived with my father throughout my secondary school and had to leave because of the same reason I am about to state. I came back to Abuja because of my inability to get into the higher institution and I needed my dad to train me up to the university.

We are six in the house and I am the only female. On the 24th of April 2017 at about 8.20, I wanted to watch a TV programme on Telemundo, my cousin with Facebook name Abayomi Adigun refused to let me watch the programme, I tried to explain to him that the programme would last for only 45minuites and after that I will give him the remote since he already knew it was my favourite programme.

He bluntly refused and took away the Dstv card, so I left the house to take a walk and ease my anger. I later went back home. I was in the sitting room when my father returned back home. My cousin told him what had happened and added salt and pepper.

My father asked for my own side of the story and as I was narrating my own side of the story, a certain man named ‘Kabiru’ who has been living with us for less than a week now said I was rude, he stood up, pushed me aside, stormed into the room and came out with a belt and started beating me with it during the process of trying to stop him from using the belt on me, I scratched him and my cousin came and joined in beating me.

They started beating me and my father joined them because he said it was wrong for me to stop ‘Kabiru’ from using the belt on me. He started by pulling my hair and they continued. I screamed helplessly but no help came because we were not close to our neighbours.

When I threatened to report them to the police, they locked the door and seized my phone. I was already badly battered by then and I could barely open my left eyes. They refused to let me out until at about 10am the next day when I insisted that I needed to go to the hospital or else I would die.

But even when I got there, I couldn’t say anything about it when I was asked because I was scared that if I get home, they might beat me up again and still lock me up.

I needed to go out so that I could contact my mother. I am currently in my friend’s house and I have been able to reach my mother although there is little or nothing she can do. These pictures which I posted are pictures which were taken the next day.

Most of you may wonder why I am sharing my story but I would rather speak up than die in silence. This is not the first time or the second time and it may not be the last either. I want to let people know what I am passing through in the hands of a man I call father.

Some of my friends in FGC KWALI (2014 set) will relate to my story because of his brutality towards me even while I was still in secondary school.

I write in tears because I do not know what my fate will be the next time but if I am not this lucky next time, I would be fulfilled because I have shared my experience with those who care to listen. The man on blue is my father while the guy on white is my cousin.
