Mr Gabriel Odu-Orji was kidnapped at Effionawan street in Mayne Avenue area of Calabar south.
The Cross River state commissioner for water resources, Mr Gabriel Odu-Orji, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Mr Gabriel Odu-Orji was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, April 9 at Effionawan street in Mayne Avenue area of Calabar south, Vanguard reports.
The abduction was reportedly carried out by five gunmen who came in a blue Audi car and picked Odu-Orji away as he stepped down from his car to eat in a restaurant, according to an eyewitness, Mr James Ibri.
Ibri said that the gunmen dropped their car and ordered the commissioner into his Prado Jeep and drove away with him.
“At around 12 noon today, I was in front of one restaurant waiting for a friend when the Commissioner for Water Resources stepped down and was approaching the restaurant.
“Before he could get into the restaurant, some five well-armed men came in a blue Audi, parked their car by the road side and ordered the Commissioner into his car and drove away.
“Those guys were kidnappers because they wore mask to hide their faces,’’ the eyewitness said.

“We have received a complaint about the abduction of the Commissioner for Water Resources. He was kidnapped and taken away in his Prado Jeep today.
“We have deployed our men from the command and those from the intelligence department to all routes in the state with a view to releasing him.
“As we speak, all check points are thoroughly manned by our men to ensure that he is released safely,’’ Ugbo said.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reports that residents of Oteri and other communities surrounding Ughelli, an ancient town in Delta state, have raised alarm over how police in ‘A’ Division are trading with robbers, collecting money and releasing them back to the community.
The community members raised the alarm when a human rights group, Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, led by Prince Kehinde Taiga, carried a campaign against kidnapping, robbery, extortion and other criminal activities to the area on Friday, April 7, 2017.
In a telephone interview with NAIJ.com after the rally, Prince Taiga said the community members gave vivid account of how police officers in ‘A’ Division allegedly extort money from the community members and release criminals after arresting them back to the community.
