How militants gunned down army captain, four policemen in Ikorodu – Lagos police commissioner

- The commissioner of police in Lagos state, Mr Fatai Owosen, says four policemen, and an army captain who were killed by militants were on a rescue minion at the time the killings occurred

- Owosen said the incident occurred about 1am on Sunday April 9, after the police received a distress call that a group of militants/kidnappers had entered Owutu-Isawo in Ikorodu

- The commissioner says the police are working with sister security agencies to arrest the suspected militants that killed the men

How militants gunned down army captain, four policemen in Ikorodu – Lagos police commissioner

Fatai Owoseni has said the police and other security agencies are trying to arrest the suspected militants that killed four policemen, an army captain and a civilian.

The commissioner of police in Lagos state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, has clarified reports surrounding the circumstances that led to the killing of four policemen, an army captain and a civilian by some militants on Sunday, April 9.

The commissioner made clarification in a statement on Sunday while responding to the killings by militants in Isawo area of Ikorodu in Lagos state.

Owoseni said the officers were killed while trying to rescue some people abducted by the unidentified gunmen, the News Agency of Nigeria reports (NAN).

“At about 1a.m of today Sunday April 9, the Police received distress call that a group of militants/kidnappers had entered Owutu-Isawo in Ikorodu through the thick swampy forest surrounding the area.

“They were reported to have kidnapped some residents. In response, the Police and the Army immediately mobilised personnel to the area, where the kidnapped victims were rescued.

“Sadly, however, five out of the gallant, brave and patriotic officers lost their lives during the rescue operation. One of them is a Nigerian Army Captain, while the remaining four are Policemen. One of the residents in the area also died.

“We pray that the God Almighty reward their loyalty to the Nation with Paradise and grant their souls peaceful rest.

“We also pray that God gives their respective families the courage to bear the loss,” Owoseni said.

The commissioner said the command was working with sister security agencies to arrest the suspected militants that killed four policemen, an army captain and a civilian .

We will continue to rely on the good people of Lagos State for useful information and their partnership,” he said.

In another news story, NAIJ.com reports that some gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram Islamist, on Saturday, April 8, opened fire at private and commercial vehicles along the Maiduguri-Damboa road in Borno state.

NAIJ.com gathered that vehicles attacked were those going to southern part of Borno state from Maiduguri, the capital.

According to Daily Trust, shortly before taking off, some gunmen suddenly appeared and shot sporadically, killing scores and injuring many.
