The former governor is yet to issue any statement about the raid as efforts to get some of his family members and his media aide to speak proved abortive for none of them was ready to make any comment.

The raid on Babangida Aliyu’s residence comes shortly after the ant-graft agency carried out a sting operation on Wednesday, April 12 in a residential building in the 7th Floor of a four - bedroom apartment at Osborne Towers located at 16, Osborne road Ikoyi which led to the recovery of huge cash in different currencies.

Following the discovery, bankers were brought in with their counting machines and the total amount was put at $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m.

The anti-graft agency suspected that the cash might have been proceeds of crime kept at the residence to prevent any bank alert.

Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue who is the former managing-director, operations at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been named as owner of the huge cash uncovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

But she has however, said the money and the building were the cash was recovered does not belong to her

For now, the identity of the owner of the cash was kept under wraps pending the conclusion of investigations.

It was, however, suspected that the cash might have been laundered by politically-exposed persons and former political office holders through fronts.

In the NAIJ.com video below, a former GMD of NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, is being arraigned by the EFCC after huge sum of cash was found in a bunker allegedly owned by him.
