After almost 2 years of governance, Governor Okowa’s administration has remained without impact - group

- A group has written off the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state

- The human rights group, Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, says for the two years Okowa has been in governance, there is nothing new added to the state

- It said the state is being governed by cabals and until the cabals are pulled down which allegedly the governor is a member, there can't be development

With almost two years of governance in the oil rich Delta state, a human rights group, Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, has described the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a write off, insisting that the Okowa’s government has not made any meaningful impact in the lives of the people of the state.

In an exclusive interview with NAIJ.com in Asaba, the Delta state capital, former President of the human rights group, Sunny Enenuwedia, told our reporter that as far as he is concerned as an indigene of the state, there is nothing on ground to show for the two years the Okowa’s government has been in the saddle.

According to him: “This Okowa’s administration is a write off. To me as a person I have not seen what this government has done in this state. This government is part and parcel of the happenings in this state.

Sunny Enenuwedia says Governor Okowa's administration has not made any impact in the lives of Deltans, the state is being governed by cabals

“When Okowa came in, the first thing he said was that the former governor indebted this state to the tune of N600billion. He said it. What effort has made to make the former governor return the money he said he embezzled? Till today, nothing has happened.

“Till today, nobody has mentioned it and nothing is happening in this state. But they are hammering prosperity agenda, where is the prosperity? Before you go into governance, you should be able to know what is wrong with the system and put plans in place to correct the wrongs in the system.

Before Okowa came into government, there was full blown unemployment in Delta state. He knows, can he tell us how many people he has employed since he entered government. You are talking about schools, there were a lot of things that were done before he came, how many of them have improved? There is no improvement in this state.”

For him, the state has remained as it has been over the years because there is a cabal that has held the state to ransom and until that cabal is broken, the state will remain in bondage, noting that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is one of the cabals holding the state to ransom.

He said if Okowa disagrees that he is not a member of the cabal holding the state to ransom, he should set up investigative panel to probe the former governor and question the former Emmanuel Uduaghan’s government on how he spent the money of the state for the eight years of his administration.

“But if he is part and parcel of those that embezzle the money, can he question that? So, I have not seen anything called government in this state. When there is a change when the people’s choice will govern the state, that is when we will begin to see changes,” he said.

Enenuwedia, who lamented the challenges that bedeviled the 2015 election following the non-backing of the readers by law, said the 2019 election will be different from that of the 2015, noting that now that there is a law backing the use of card readers, the will of the people will prevail.

He alleged that Governor Okowa coasted to victory because of stolen votes and the card readers that were not backed by law, saying“we will be able to choose our governor and we will see what governance is all about.”
