4 IMPORTANT changes made to the Abuja airport as it reopens next week

The Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja has been undergoing repairs over the past month. On April 7, 2016, Vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo took a tour of the airport to examine the level of repair work done.

The special assistant on Digital/New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Tolu Ogunlesi recently spoke on the changes made to the airport.

Below are some of the changes:

1. New departure terminal

When Abuja Airport reopens next week, there'll be a 2nd Departure Terminal for domestic passengers (in the Arik/Air Peace wing) #ABVClosure.

2. Boarding

Arik/Air Peace passengers will now be able to board directly from that wing of the Airport, instead of having to go across to other wing.

3. Elevators

FAAN taking advantage of #ABVClosure to upgrade facilities. Main domestic departures area finally getting access and exit elevators.

4. Runway

Main runway reconstruction work now done. Ongoing is laying of runway lights & the markings. Airport reopens next Wednesday. #ABVClosure.

The federal government, on Thursday, March 30, rated the pace of work at the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 57.5 percent, adding that the work is ahead of schedule.

This was disclosed by Hadi Sirika, the Minister of state for aviation, during a media tour led by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the airport.

According to Sirika, the April 19 reopening date is sacrosanct NAN reports. He said that the project was being executed by the contractor in accordance with the laid down programme of work, reiterating that there would be no need for time extension.

He said: “The contractor has been fully mobilized and he has done as much as 57 per cent of the work, which is good and it shows that we are on course.

“It also shows that we are on time and it means that we are doing what we are supposed to do to ensure that the runway is opened come April 19."
