2 soldiers killed in sea robbery as Nigerian military destroys 13 illegal refineries (photos)

- The Nigerian military has lost two soldiers at a creek in Rivers state

- The soldiers died while responding to a sea robbery attack at the Creek 6 Houseboat Cawthorne Channel in Rivers state

- The military also discovered and destroyed 13 illegal refineries at the Iyalama Adama axis of the state

The Nigerian military on Thursday, April 13, said it lost two soldiers at the Creek 6 Houseboat Cawthorne Channel in Rivers state.

NAIJ.com gathered that the soldiers who were attached to the Operation Delta Safe died while responding to a distress call of sea robbers at the creek around Ijawkiri general area.

The media coordinator of the Operation Delta Safe, Abubakar Abdullahi, a major said: "Sadly, our troops deployed at Creek 6 Houseboat Cawthorne Channel while responding to a distress call of sea robbers attack around Ijawkiri general area engaged heavily armed sea robbers."

"Unfortunately, 2 gallant soldiers exhibited highest point of patriotism by paying supreme price, while 3 others sustained gunshot injuries. Effort is ongoing by the JTF to track and apprehend the criminals," Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi however noted that during the operation, 13 illegal refineries were discovered around Iyalama Adama axis of the state on Wednesday, April 12.

He said that while no arrest was made during the raid, the illegal refineries were destroyed by the Nigerian military.

Recall that the federal government had promised to work with illegal refineries in the Niger Delta region.

The vice president Yemi Osinbajo had directed all oil companies to relocate their head offices to the region.

Osinbajo said the aims was to support government's effort in reducing the crisis in the Niger Delta.
