- 13 students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been remanded in Kirikiri

UNILAG has been rocked by protests since the rustication of some student leaders
On Saturday, April 1, 2017, the police charged 13 students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) before a Special Offences Mobile Court in Oshodi, Lagos, for what they called the “unlawful invasion” of TVC television station premises
These are the names of the accused students: Femi Adeyeye, Toni Aina, Kodri Yaya, Asimi Oladime, Ismahim Olalekan, Segun Okesola, Abdulazeez Soneye, Idris Abogunloko, Muyiwa Olaniyi, Toheed Oladimeji, Joseph Akanni, Lukumon Olusegun, and Abiodun Agbeniyi.

The students were arraigned before Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka, on two counts of unlawful invasion and disruption of activities.
Nwaka ordered that the students be remanded at Kirikiri Prison pending their bail application and the case was adjourned to April 6, for determination of their bail.
Effiong Asuquo, the police prosecuting counsel, told the court that on March 31 the students had engaged in a “riotous invasion” of TVC television station in Lagos, protesting the alleged rustication of one of their students.
According to him, the students also invaded the main campus of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and had disrupted normal activities in the institution.
Asuquo said the invasion was a ploy to stall the commencement of school exams which were scheduled to begin on Monday, April 3, 2017.

According to Premium Times the students were protesting the rustication for two semesters of a visually-impaired student, Lawrence Success, for criticising the institution’s management.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported the mysterious death of a UNILAG student. A Chemistry Education student of the University of Lagos, identified simply as Tope, slumped and died at the institution’s medical centre after a night out with an unidentified man.
