A 46-year-old man, Azeez Bello, who allegedly collected N624,000 on the pretext of drilling a borehole, was on Tuesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

Bello, who lives at No. 11, Akinkunmi St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 3 at about 8.10 a.m. in Ipanmesanmi area of Ota.

Gbesi said that the accused collected N624,000  from the complainant,  Jayeola Titilope, to construct a domestic borehole and lay tiles in his house.

The accused collected the money and failed to do the job as agreed.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Banwo said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
