Game Over: 2 men face N1m land fraud charge in Ogun

Two men have been arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of felony, fraud and theft.

Two men — Jelili Jimoh and Olusina Sulaimon — were on Monday charged with N1 million land fraud at an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court.

The accused — Jimoh, 56, and Sulaimon, 43 — are facing a three-count charge of felony, fraud and theft.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale,  the duo committed the offences on the May 4, 2015 at Ago Ijesa in Ijaye area of Abeokuta.

Eigbegiale said the accused conspired and obtained the sum of N1 million from the complainant, Tolulope Uthman, on the pretext of selling a plot of land to him along Kuto road in Abeokuta.

“The second accused (Suliamon) allegedly introduced himself to the complainant as the surveyor in charge of the parcel of land and that the land in question belongs to his family.

“The complainant went to report the fraudulent act at the Citizens Rights Department in the Ministry of Lands and the accused persons promised to refund the money before the end of May 2015 but refused to pay back until they were brought to court.”

The offences contravened Sections 390, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.

Both pleaded innocence of the offences.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oriyomi Sofowora, granted the accused a bail of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Further hearing has been fixed for April 5.
