Muse Factory taps an albino model for Spring/Summer 2017 Collection tagged 'Freedom' (read review).

The Muse Factory, a luxury womenswear label, launches its SS17 collection, ‘FREEDOM’. The collection is inspired by the designer’s personal struggle as a creative; the vision, initial apprehension, vulnerability and final acceptance of her artistic self.

The collection is a colourful and raw interpretation of the designer’s vision, art and voice as a creative. This is evident in the colour palette, silhouette, and details such as 3D embroidery, frayed hems, ruffles, frills and sheer fabrics. Featuring a fusion of summer staples and new pieces in warm, summery tones, the collection offers both casual and ornate pieces. Iconic pieces like the ‘Onome’ dress features one of this season’s biggest trends: embroidery.

The 3D embroidered heart sits strategically positioned in silk organza pleats in the shape of a stylised heart, opening up at the waist and continuing down the hip to accentuate the body. The collection also features pieces like the ‘Erela' dress, a summery mustard yellow form-fitting number, featuring hand-frayed tassels, the rust-coloured ‘Adaku’ skirt and the ‘Weyinmi’ dress featuring layers frills and pleats in delicate Chantilly lace.

The choice of an albino model was the closest and most direct interpretation of the designer’s emotions at the point of conception. People with albinism are faced with a constant struggle to be seen and heard.

They are mostly withdrawn because of constant stigmatisation in their daily lives. To bring this vision to life, The Muse Factory reached out and partnered with the Onome Akinlolu Majaro Foundation; a foundation created to empower people with albinism. The designer’s intentions through this campaign is to encourage people to look beyond complexion, and to embrace themselves, their individualism and uniqueness.

To facilitate the representation of albinos in the Nigerian fashion industry, The Muse Factory also reached out to Catch 22 Model Management to collaborate with The OAM Foundation. The brand is proud to say that this collaboration has culminated in the signing of a member of the OAM Foundation to Catch 22 Model Management and hopes this opens up doors for the albino community.
