Flight Services will let you find, compare, and book flights, as well as buy air tickets online directly from various Airline companies across the world.

Jumia Travel (formerly Jovago) has announced the launch of Flight Services for users of its platform, a move aimed at boosting its service offerings.

According to a press release made available to Pulse Tech, the new service is part of a broader strategy direction aimed at making Jumia travel the one stop shop that will provide accommodation, packages and flights on the same platform, further streamlining the entire process.

The online hotel booking company will now offer both domestic and international flight bookings for all major airlines on the continent including Arik Air, Dana Air, Medview Airline, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, Rwandair Express, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia, and Air Seychelles.

It’s a new step for us as we aim to be the leading African Online Travel Agency, providing best customer experience for the travelers. It is also part of our broader program to create a one stop travel shop providing accommodation, packages, and flights all on the same platform, in a bid to streamline travel in Africa,” says Paul Midy, CEO of Jumia Travel.

Africa only accounts for about 3% of global air traffic so there is potential in the direction Jumia Travel is heading. However, the company has had its own troubles (it sued co-founder Marek Zmyslowski last year) and parent company Jumia reported heavy losses in 2016.

Jumia Travel aims at capitalising on a market that is progressively driving hospitality demand on the continent. With the International Air Transport Association, ‘IATA’ predicting a strong growth of 4.8% in passenger numbers in Africa in the next 5 years, this confirms our strategic commitment to provide infinite travel solutions to travellers,“ says Paul Midy.

There are already several competitors in the hospitality space (including former MD Marek Zmyslowski's HotelOga) and it will be interesting to see how Jumia Travel's new strategy will reflect on how much market share it will continue to enjoy on the continent.

Jumia Travel was launched in 2013 and now offers its services to over 25,000 hotel in Africa and 200,000 worldwide. It is backed by MTN, Millicom, Rocket Internet, Orange and Axa.
