- The governor also said that the reason why PDP lost during the supplementary election was because security was beefed up to counter any irregularity and malpractice
The governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that he is confident that the election tribunal will uphold his victory in the governorship election.
The governor also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using thugs and the force of the police to rig the first round of the election which gave them an early lead, Daily Trust reports.

In an interview with the Daily Trust, Ganduje explained how he defeated the PDP in Kano state, citing that the first election was marred by irregularities, the use of thugs, and card readers malfunctioning.
He said that all those made the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to call for a supplementary election to address the situation.
“It was full of fraud, irregularities and everything you can think of. That’s why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had to for the supplementary election.
“If you look at it, there was a connivance with security agencies. Card readers were not properly used. Thugs were used in different polling unit and many ballot boxes were destroyed, which gave birth to some cancellations,” he said.
When asked on what he thinks of the supplementary election, the governor connected the reason for his victory in the re-run to the security that was effective in a way that disallows all kinds of electoral malpractice.
He said that though the supplementary election was carried out in 28 local government areas, the PDP did not win any, but rather started spreading lies that people were killed during the election with the aid of fake clips taken from the Rwanda genocide.
“The supplementary election took place in 28 local government areas. They did not win any local government because security was beefed up and eyes were on everybody; hence security compromise was not possible again…
But in the supplementary election when the security was put in proper position, they resorted to the propaganda that people were killed. They even took some clips from Rwanda and different developing countries where they had social problems. None of the clips was from Kano. Just find out,” he said.
When told that he suddenly remembered the people of Gama because he needed their support during the re-run, he said that is not true, that his victory in the local government was not influenced.
The governor also responded to the gap large gap between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in the supplementary election, saying that PDP was not the only party who got zero in the local government.
The governor also fingered the commissioner of police in the state of being complicit in the rigging that took place in the first election, adding that he had no reason to arrest a deputy governor with immunity.
He said: “He was giving them protection. He had no right to arrest a deputy governor. In fact, we could have taken him to court for doing that because he went against the constitution particularly because the deputy governor has immunity.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that INEC declared the incumbent Ganduje, winner of the gubernatorial supplementary election in the state.
After the collation of figures for the poll conducted in 28 local government areas on Saturday, March 23, by the electoral commission, the PDP polled a total of 10,239 votes, while the APC secured 45,876 votes.
