Neo Black Movement of Africa began in 1977. One of the founders said that included an outing to mourn the Sharpeville massacre by different means of a shrine and black rum. He added that it was very difficult for them at that time to have a clear cut idea of what they were doing, as they had to make everything up as they went along.

He recalled how they had to fabricate some expressions and also improvise to make all proceedings much more meaningful. According to him, Neo Black Movement is a registered non-religious, non-tribal and also non-partisan organization that sincerely seeks to revive, retain and then modify the needed aspects of African culture that may even provide vehicles of progress for the whole of Africa. Mr. Augustus Bemigho-Eyeoyibo is the current President of Neo Black Movement.
