- Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barcelona president says the Spanish giants were keen on signing Pogba in 2016 but missed out on Frenchman
- United then splashed a world record fee of £90m for the Frenchman
- Pogba will line up for United against Barcelona in the UCL quarter-final clash Wednesday
Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barcelona president, has taken out time from the club’s preparation for their Champions League quarter-final first leg at against United to reveal why the La Liga giants failed to seal a move for Paul Pogba.
According to Daily Mail report, Bartomeu stressed that the Catalan side were keen on signing the Frenchman in 2016 from Juve, but they were discouraged by Manchester United's £90m bid.
Interestingly, the Nou Camp dwellers were eager to land Pogba and held series of meeting with Juventus chiefs, but could only seat back and watch after the Red Devils tendered a record transfer fee to re-sign the midfielder.

“In the summer of 2015, Paul Pogba was playing in Turin and we simply told Juve that, if one day they decide to sell the player, we would be interested,” Bartomeu was quoted as saying to ESPN FC.
“When they sold the player, they told us what the offer would have to be and we couldn't afford that amount of money at the time.
“So he went to United, and he's making them better as a team because he's one of the stars of the world of football right now," he summed up.
