Tragedy as famous ex-wrestling star dies aged 39

- WWE is mourning the death of former start, Ashley Massaro

- She joined WWE at the age of 25 after winning the company's Diva Search

- She passed away just 10 days before her 40th birthday

WWE has once again been plunged into mourning following the death of former wrestling star, Ashley Massaro, who passed away at the age of 39.

According to a talkSPORT report, Massaro was found unconscious at her Long Island home, with authorities disclosing she died of "non-criminal causes."

WWE has since paid tribute to her through a statement posted on the company's website.

"We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends," the statement said.

Massaro spent three years in the WWE, making her first appearance in 2005 after winning the company's Diva Search.

She is fondly remembered for her appearance at WrestleMania 23 in a match she fought and lost against Melina for the Women's Championship.

After quitting wrestling in 2008, she ventured into reality show and appeared as a contestant on American TV show 'Survivor: China,' but was voted out in the second episode after just six days.

In 2017, she made a return to professional wrestling in Zero1 Professional Wrestling USA, joining former WWE diva Jillian Hall.

Since her demise, tributes have been pouring in, with legendary WWE star, Mick Foley, tweeting:

"This is just awful news - Ashley Massaro is gone. She was only 39. She lived in the same town as me...I loved seeing her around. She was always so nice...and now she’s gone."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that former WCW wrestling star, Silver King, had died at the age of 51 after suffering a heart attack while playing his tried-and-true role of villain in London at the Roundhouse.

According to reports, a kick may have activated a coronary that occasioned the heart attack, with authorities confirming the wrestler breathed his last at the venue on Saturday, May 11.
