Police dismiss PDP’s call for resignation of IGP Idris

- The Nigeria Police Force describes the call by the PDP for the resignation of the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, as laughable

- Jimoh Moshood, the police spokesperson, dismisses the allegation that the police is working in favour of any political party

- Moshood says the police are focused on law enforcement and ensuring that the forthcoming elections are conducted peacefully

The Nigeria Police Force has faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for demanding that the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, resigns his position over alleged political bias.

Jimoh Moshood, the police spokesperson on Thursday, November 30, described the call by the PDP for the resignation of Ibrahim Idris as laughable, Channels TV reports.

The police spokesperson also dismissed the allegation that the police was working in favour of any political party, insisting that the force has remained neutral.

Moshood said the police are only focused on law enforcement and ensuring that the forthcoming elections were conducted peacefully.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that PDP on Thursday, November 29, asked the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu and the inspector general of police, Idris Ibrahim, to resign their positions.

The chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, speaking during the party’s national executive committee meeting in Abuja, said Yakubu Mahmoud should resign over his alleged inability to conduct free, fair and credible election.

He called on Idris Ibrahim to resign because the police were allegedly being used to undermine the democratic process.
