Manchester City bow to superb Manchester United in a thrilling five-goal clash at the Etihad Stadium

- Paul Pogba scored two second half goals in 90 seconds to help Manchester United beat Manchester City in Saturday's Premier League derby

- The Citizens started on a bright note with Kompany and Gundogan netting within five minutes to earn the hosts first half win

- Meanwhile, they (City) battle Liverpool for semifinal spot in the UEFA Champions League as they currently trail by three goals from the first leg

Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, April 7 to delay their title triumph

Coming from a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash, the Citizens got the game off to a flying start with two first half goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Guendogan.

Kompany opened scoring for the hosts through a fine header in the 25th minute, while Gundogan’s clinical finish ensured Pep Guardiola’s men won the first half of the game.

England winger Raheem Sterling had two great opportunities to extend his side’s lead, but on both occasion, he failed to bury the chance.

On return for the second half, Jose Mourinho maintained the starting eleven, but this time, his team grew in confidence and attacked more.

Paul Pogba reduced the Red Devils’ deficit in the 53rd minute through an assist from Alexis Sanchez, and barely two minutes after, he leveled up for the Old Trafford side through a fine header – and again, former Arsenal winger got the assist for the second goal.

Chris Smalling made the difference on the night for United with his 69th minute volley to power his side to a 3-2 victory over their city rivals in the encounter.

Meanwhile, City’s hopes of winning the league officially after this evening’s encounter has been stalled and they will have to wait till their next match before throwing up party to overthrowing Chelsea as the new champions.

In the meantime, they welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday in a must win UEFA Champions League clash.

They are currently three goals down from the first leg, they will need to score four unreplied goals to stand a chance of progressing through to the semifinal stage of the competition.

With this win, Manchester United have been able to reduce the gap between them and Pep Guardiola’s men on the log to 13 points with 6 games to the end of the current league season.

And guess who the man of the match was, Alexis Sanchez after providing two assists in their superb comeback in the game.
