Black Saturday in France as highly rated defender dies in sleep

- French teenage footballer, Samba Diop, who plays for French Lique 2 side Le Havre has died

- The French Ligue two outfit made the announcement via a tweet in their official Twitter account

- Diop passed away overnight at just 18 years

French teenage footballer, Samba Diop, who plays for French Lique 2 side Le Havre has shockingly passed away overnight, aged just 18.

Following the annoucement of the tragic news, Saturday's Ligue 2 clash between Le Havre and Stade Reims has also been postponed.

The French Lique 2 side broke the tragic news on Saturday morning April 7, saying they are as yet unsure of the cause of death.

They took to Twitter to say: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our player Samba Diop.

"This is an extremely difficult time for all of us.

"The entire HAC club extends its deepest condolences to the Samba family."

Before his sad demise Diop was the vice-captain of France's Under-19 squad and also a part of Le Havre's reserve team.

The young defender was found dead at his parents' home on Saturday morning, according to local reports in France.

Le Havre currently sit tenth in Ligue 2 - France's second tier - and were slated to play league-leaders Stade Reims on Saturday.

However, the game has been postponed - with no new date announced - following the shocking, tragic news.
